Scott Penrose (@scottpenrose) discussing the git bisect command at CocoaHeads March in Durham.
This month, we teamed up with the Raleigh-based iPhone Developer group and did CocoaHeads in Raleigh for the first time. It was a great success and we’ll definitely be doing this again. The current plan will be to swap months between Durham and Raleigh. So If you can’t make it to the October meetup in Durham, we’ll be back in Raleigh the next month.
Thanks to Katie at TekSystems for sponsoring us with both the meetup location and enough pizza to feed many hungry geeks.
Session: Lawrence Roufail on going “Beyond the SDK”
Lawrence went through several third party components he’s used in his apps and added a few more to his list in this “interactive” session. The session quickly evolved to a discussion of his eleven apps and how he’s developed, deployed and marketed his apps. It was a great session where we all shared a lot of great information.

I apologize, but we don’t have the video here. The session recorded, but was all mangled on tape. Someday I’ll need to update beyond tapes. :)

Doug showed off his app, VerseByHeart, and talked a little about how he designed it to work. Some very interesting ideas are used in helping the users remember lines via 3 different games.

The end of the summer brought us a small but very enjoyable 5th CocoaHeads of 2011. The crowd was a little smaller, but we had pizza and a lot of great discussions. Thanks again to Two Toasters who hosted us in their office at the American Underground and to TekSystems for supplying pizza and drinks.

Wow, this post is very over due. I apologize for not getting it up sooner. Here is the recap from June:
Our fourth CocoaHeads is now finished and it might have been the biggest yet. We had a great night and a lot of cool discussions. Then, later, a lot of NSDrinking with our own section at Tyler’s.
A really special thanks goes out to Two Toasters for hosting us.
This month had a great line up that was, like last month, pretty graphics heavy.
Session: Jacob Beaudoin on OpenGL (@dxjacob)
Jacob gave a detailed introduction to 3D Graphics with OpenGL ES. You can follow Jacob’s blog where he discusses more in depth topics and shows samples of his work at pintbit.com. You can also play around with WebGL in his sample site here: http://pintbit.com/sandbox/webgl/shaders.html and follow along with the project in this video at: http://github.com/dxjacob/OpenShooter

This month had a great line up that was pretty game and graphics heavy. First up, the session agenda and metadata, PDF file can be found here. Also, for the first time, these sessions and demos are being recorded. The sound and lighting is a little rough, but it is at least good enough to watch. The videos also have a Vimeo channel which can be subscribed to.
Session: Jonathan Rippy on cocos2d for iPhone
We started out with Jonathan Rippy discussing how to work with cocos2d. After a brief discussion of how cocos2d works (it’s just a movie), he demoed a fishing game he is currently working on.
Download the keynote presentation for cocos2d
Demo: Justin Berstler with Rhymo
Our first demo of the night was Justin Berstler and Dan Lee’s iPhone game, Rhymo. The game has several levels of different rhyming games. Justin described a little bit of history behind the app and talked about their experience developing for the iPhone. No, they won’t be sharing the secret of finding words that rhyme. Be sure to visit their website at http://rhymo.co and check it out, it is a really fun game.

Demo: Bruce Shankle with BA3
Finally, our last demo was from Bruce Shankle of BA3. If you’ve been to any of the previous meetings, you’ve likely seen the progress they’ve been making. The iPad app BA3 is working on is a tool for pilots in flight. The latest addition is an OpenGL view of the terrain in front of the plane. You can see some of the progress on Jacob’s blog, http://www.pintbit.com. Learn more about BA3 on their site, http://www.ba3.us

The second CocoaHeads is in the can, Thanks for everyone who made it out. Special thanks to Two Toasters for hosting this month’s meetup at the American Underground.
Brief introduction keynote for the night can be found here with metadata and links to all the NSCoder and CocoaHeads RTP info.
The night started with Jeremy Ellison from Two Toasters discussing RestKit. “RestKit is an Objective-C framework for iOS that aims to make interacting with RESTful web services simple, fast and fun. It combines a clean, simple HTTP request/response API with a powerful object mapping system that reduces the amount of code you need to write to get stuff done.” The keynote presentation can be downloaded here.

Next up, Matt Welch from Windup Rocket gave a quick demo of his app, Puzzld. Finally, Bruce Shankle from BA3 demoed his in-progress app for pilots.
We finished the night having a NSDrinking at Tyler’s.
Next month is currently being planned, follow @trianglecocoa and/or this blog to keep up to date. Thanks again to everyone!
Our first monthly CocoaHeads meetup had a great crowd turn out. Thanks to everyone for coming out and we hope to see you next month.
We want to thank TriOut for sponsoring the group with pizza and our host for the month, ReverbNation.
Meeting slides with all the metadata about the meeting can be downloaded here in PDF (pdf).
We had two great talks this meetup. The first, from Lawrence Ingraham of Tantrum Apps, is a follow-up to his iPhone Developers meetup talk on marketing of his iOS apps on the App Store. He has provided us both the original presentation (pdf) from last year and the updated version from last week’s presentation (pdf).
Our second talk, from Scott Klein of ReverbNation, was a tour of Background audio streaming of mp3 music. He has provided us with the presentation (pdf) for you to review as well.
The next meetup is scheduled for April 28th at The American Underground. Follow @NSCoderRTP on twitter or subscribe to keep up to date.
Thanks Everyone!
